Felabration and Music4Change

Fela is the God of putting messages into music. Do you think anyone else could have made music about things like Disunited United Nations, colonial mentality, anything he sung about, and make it half as funky? I think not.

Hence - this year's Felabration, the 10th anniversary of Fela's death, is the ideal time to launch Music4Change, an organisation which will hopefully push the Nigerian entertainment industry to realise their role in pushing this country forward.

We are calling all Nigerian artistes to come together in celebrating this country and do their part in pushing things into the right direction. Make us proud. Represent the new Nigeria - We are going places and it is up to all of you to lead the way.

Because, does anyone still listen to politicians? Not really. Who do people listen to? Guys and girls, ladies and gentlemen, my artiste friends, let me tell you - it is in your hands.

Just for example: If you celebrate 419 and blind materialism, congratulations, you have just given birth to the new materialistic Nigeria. Short-term fun but long-term irreparable damage.

If you, however, take a stand against cheats, thiefs and other criminals, you have done your bit in helping this country take its place among the nations of the world.

Nigeria has a huge amount of resources. Let's not waste any more time but let us all push together for this country to be as great as it could and should rightfully be.

About time, like the word of Yoruba elders, A kì í fi ìka ro etí, ká fi ro imú, ká wá tún fi ta ehín; ìgbà yí láà áro, Arúgbó n'sun kún Omó

I love the way the elders speak in riddles and paint a picture and use analogies. Hopefully I learn more Yoruba as I go along.

Abeg... for now, could you translate? :)
